PPS’s Returnable Plastic Crates helps reduce Carbon Footprint
September 20th, 2008PPS Equipment Management Ltd specialises in the management of Returnable Transit Equipment (RTE), primarily plastic pallets and plastic crates.
A large poultry producer in Scotland had for years been sending out raw chicken products in one-way non-returnable cardboard boxes. At their destination these boxes had to be disposed of at a substantial cost to the end-user.
PPS worked with the customer to switch them to returnable plastic crates which are collected for reuse. Not only did this reduce the cost to the customer, but an added advantage was the plastic crates carry 19kgs of produce versus only 15kgs in cardboard boxes – this has meant that fewer deliveries are required, reducing the amount of fuel used and contributing to a reduction in the hauliers carbon footprint.
